Columbia Alumna Running for District 8 Commissioner
After attending Columbia's Law and Social Work schools, Levine Cava became very involved in human services in South Florida, including work with foster care, adoptions, and child welfare legal services for the Florida Department of Children and Families and work with Legal Services of Greater Miami. In 1996, she founded the Human Services Coalition, now called Catalyst Miami, a nonprofit that focuses on "strengthening our middle class, lifting people out of poverty, increasing access to healthcare and other essential services, [and] increasing citizen leadership" (www.catalystmiami.org).
In an interview with the Palmetto Bay news, Levine Cava states, "I've been an advocate for serving others in Miami-Dade for over 30 years, helping people help themselves, growing local economies and strengthening the middle class. I've been a champion for fairness and good government." (Link to article).
